⭐ Classic Christmas Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

For the cookies:

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 large egg

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 1 tablespoon milk (optional, for softer dough)

For the icing:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar

  • Food coloring (optional)

  • Sprinkles, sugar pearls, etc.


🎁 Instructions

1. Make the dough

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

  2. In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla.

  4. Add the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.

  5. Flatten into 2 disks, wrap in plastic, and chill 1 hour.

2. Cut and bake

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Roll chilled dough to ¼ inch thickness on a floured surface.

  3. Cut into shapes (trees, stars, gingerbread men, etc.).

  4. Bake 8–10 minutes, until edges are just lightly golden.

  5. Cool completely before decorating.

3. Decorate

  1. Mix icing ingredients until smooth and pipeable.

  2. Add food coloring if desired.

  3. Decorate cookies and let icing set.
