Special Christmas Recipe

Making homemade Irish cream liqueur is surprisingly simple and requires only a few ingredients. Here’s a classic recipe you can try:


Ingredients

  • 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream
  • 1 tsp instant coffee or espresso powder (optional, for extra richness)
  • 1/2 tsp cocoa powder (optional, for chocolate flavor)
  • 1 (14 oz / 400 g) sweetened condensed milk
  • 3/4 cup (180 ml) Irish whiskey
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp almond extract (optional, adds depth)

Instructions

  1. Mix the cream and flavorings:
    In a blender or bowl, combine the heavy cream, cocoa powder, and instant coffee. Blend or whisk until smooth.
  2. Add condensed milk and extracts:
    Stir in the sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using).
  3. Incorporate whiskey:
    Slowly add the Irish whiskey while blending or whisking to create a smooth mixture.
  4. Bottle it:
    Pour the liqueur into a clean glass bottle or jar and seal tightly.
  5. Chill and serve:
    Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving. Shake gently before each use.

Tips

  • Homemade Irish cream lasts up to 2 weeks in the fridge.
  • Adjust sweetness by using less or more condensed milk.
  • Try adding a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for a spiced version.
