Iowa Party Bites

These Iowa Party Bites are a simple and tasty appetizer that’s perfect for any gathering. This dish is known for its combination of savory flavors and bite-sized simplicity—ideal for serving at parties, game days, or casual get-togethers. They’re easy to make, full of flavor, and always a crowd-pleaser!

Ingredients:

  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened

  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

  • 1/2 cup cooked, crumbled bacon (about 4-5 slices)

  • 1/4 cup green onions, chopped (or 1/2 small onion, finely chopped)

  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise

  • 1/4 tsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional, for crunch)

  • 1 package of small cocktail rye bread or crackers (for serving)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Cream Cheese Mixture:

    • In a large bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, mayonnaise, garlic powder, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well until everything is smooth and creamy.

  2. Add the Bacon and Onions:

    • Stir in the crumbled bacon, chopped green onions (or regular onion), and, if using, chopped pecans. Mix until everything is evenly incorporated. Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt or pepper if needed.

  3. Assemble the Bites:

    • Take the cocktail rye bread or crackers and spread a generous amount of the cheese mixture on each piece. You can either spread it with a knife or use a spoon for easier application.

  4. Chill (Optional):

    • For best flavor, chill the bites in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to meld together and makes them easier to handle.

  5. Serve:

    • Serve the Iowa Party Bites chilled or at room temperature. Arrange them on a platter for easy snacking.

Optional Variations:

  • Add a Kick: Stir in a small amount of chopped jalapeños or a few dashes of hot sauce to give the bites a little heat.

  • Substitute Meats: If you’re not a fan of bacon, try substituting with cooked sausage or even diced ham for a different twist.

  • Herb variation: You can add finely chopped fresh herbs like parsley, dill, or thyme to give it more flavor and color.

Enjoy your Iowa Party Bites! They’re quick to prepare and perfect for sharing with friends and family. These savory little treats are sure to be a hit at your next party!
