Crab Salad

Here’s a simple, classic Crab Salad—fresh, creamy, and fast—plus a lighter variation.


🦀 Classic Crab Salad

Time: 10 minutes
Best with: Lump crab meat (real crab if possible)

Ingredients

  • 8 oz lump crab meat, gently picked over

  • ¼ cup mayonnaise

  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (fresh)

  • 1 tbsp finely chopped celery

  • 1 tbsp finely chopped red onion or scallions

  • Salt & black pepper, to taste

  • Optional: pinch of Old Bay or paprika

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk mayo, lemon juice, mustard, salt, and pepper.

  2. Gently fold in crab meat (don’t break it up too much).

  3. Add celery and onion.

  4. Taste and adjust seasoning.

  5. Chill 10–20 minutes if you have time.

Serve:

  • On toasted bread or brioche

  • In lettuce cups

  • With crackers or avocado halves


🥗 Lighter / Fresh Crab Salad (No Mayo)

Great if you want something cleaner and brighter.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz crab meat

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1½ tbsp lemon juice

  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh dill or parsley

  • 1 tbsp finely diced cucumber or celery

  • Salt & pepper

Instructions

Toss everything gently and serve immediately.


Pro Tips

  • Drain crab well to avoid watery salad

  • Real crab > imitation (but imitation works in a pinch)

  • Add avocado or capers for a restaurant touch
