Here’s a simple, savory recipe for Cheese Scones — perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a snack with tea.

🧀 Cheese Scones Recipe

Ingredients (Makes ~8 scones)

  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour

  • 1 tbsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

  • ½ tsp mustard powder (optional, adds a subtle kick)

  • ½ cup (115 g) cold unsalted butter, cubed

  • 1 cup (100 g) cheddar cheese, grated (or any sharp cheese)

  • ¾ cup (180 ml) milk (plus extra for brushing)

Instructions

1. Preheat Oven

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, pepper, and mustard powder.

3. Cut in Butter

  • Add cold cubed butter to the flour mixture.

  • Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to rub butter in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

4. Add Cheese and Milk

  • Stir in grated cheese.

  • Gradually add milk, mixing until a soft dough forms.

  • Do not overwork the dough — scones should stay light and tender.

5. Shape Scones

  • Turn dough onto a floured surface.

  • Pat or roll into a 1-inch thick circle.

  • Cut into 8 wedges (like a pizza) or use a round cutter.

6. Bake

  • Place scones on prepared baking sheet.

  • Brush tops lightly with milk for a golden finish.

  • Bake 15–20 minutes or until golden brown.

7. Serve

  • Enjoy warm with butter, jam, or extra cheese.

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days, or freeze for longer storage.

🌟 Tips & Variations

  • Cheese varieties: Cheddar, Gruyère, or Parmesan work well.

  • Add herbs: Chives, thyme, or rosemary enhance flavor.

  • Spicy twist: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or smoked paprika.

  • Mini scones: Cut smaller for bite-sized snacks.

If you want, I can also provide a quick 15-minute microwave or no-yeast version that’s perfect for last-minute cheese scones.
